Jordan Brand is once again having another collaboration with a big brand. This time it is OFF-WHITE. OFF-WHITE is a brand based in Milan that symbolizes high-end streetwear. The head designer and founder of this brand is no other than Virgil Abloh (shown to the left). Abloh was born and raised in Chicago and grew up learning about fashion. He has since created OFF-WHITE which has been one of the strongest and most expensive streetwear brands out there. OFF-WHITE’s symbol is either multiple straight lines or a big X on the back of the shirt. OFF-WHITE has grown ever since opening in 2014 and has collaborated with brands such as Nike, KITH, and now Jordan. They also have had many famous artists wearing their apparel such as Tyga, Justin Bieber, and Kanye West. As you can see in the image to Virgil Abloh, he is wearing the teased Jordan 1 collaboration with OFF-WHITE, he hides half the shoe under his pants while having a pop of color with the lime green shoe laces.
With this collaboration with Jordan, OFF-WHITE is taking the Air Jordan 1 “Chicago” colorway and making it more unique and giving it more details. It comes with deconstructed details, text graphic overlays, oversized Swoosh, OFF-WHITE branding, and various text structures in quotes. They have done this with the Nike Air Max 90 with various text structures in quotes to make it more unique in its own way while keeping the silhouette the same. The shoe comes with white, black, lime green, and orange shoe laces so you can be even more avant garde with this unique sneaker. This new shoe has everyone in the community going crazy for them. The price is steep retailing at $350. However, to some people the price makes sense due to the high-end materials being put into the shoe and how big the collaboration is. There has been no release date stated so that gives you time to save up for this hyped shoe! For more information, click here.
Last week, Lonzo Ball of the Ball Brothers, released his first signature shoe with his family brand, Big Baller Brand. Lonzo Ball is about to be drafted into the NBA as a lottery pick, coming straight out of UCLA. Him and his brothers have been star players of the Chino Hills High School basketball team and have constantly been making sports news due to their talents. They have even been nicknamed the Ball Brothers because of their skills in basketball and their last name. The brothers include LaMelo Ball, the youngest, who is a sophomore attending Chino Hills High School, LiAngelo Ball, who is a senior attending Chino Hills High School, and of course the oldest, Lonzo Ball who is about to graduate UCLA. However, what is controversial with the brothers is their father, LaVar Ball. In some perspectives, LaVar is a supportive father who is just looking out for his sons’ futures. However, on the other hand, some believe the father is crazy and is instead, destroying their futures. Personally, I believe LaVar is a supportive father who just wants best for his children.
With Lonzo Ball going into the NBA, brands like Nike, Adidas, and Under Armor are looking into partnering with him for a signature shoe. LaVar Ball turned down all of their offers because he was looking for creative privileges with the brands and having them partner with Big Baller Brand overall, not just Lonzo. He wanted to show what Big Baller Brand can bring to the table which was not just the brothers but the brand’s apparel and engineering. Many people believe LaVar is crazy for turning down all of the offers that were presented to Lonzo. Despite all the comments made, LaVar Ball didn’t care, he decided to create Lonzo’s signature shoe with the family brand rather than other big brands like Nike and Adidas. That is where the ZO2 Prime comes in. Lonzo’s new signature sneaker is out now retailing at $495. However, if you’re a size 14 and above it will cost $695 and if you want the premium pack, you can get the ZO2 Prime signed by Lonzo and encased in a glass case with LED light flooring for $995. Also you can get slides for $220. These prices in my opinion were crazy and it totally changed my opinion on the Ball Brothers and Big Baller Brand overall.
Everyone was outraged by these crazy prices and the model itself. People accused Big Baller Brand for copying a Ohio State football coach’s logo called “Zone 6.” People accused them for stealing a Kobe Bryant signature shoe model and the Adidas Boost mold on the midsole. Some people defended him saying that the price makes sense since they are a small brand and they had to create their own mold and technology for the shoe. All of these accusations and insults made toward Big Baller Brand did not stop LaVar Ball from tweeting, “If you can’t afford the ZO2’S, you’re not a BIG BALLER!” Now people just think LaVar is going crazy. From the stealing of logos and molds to insulting the community of sneakerheads and ballers. Lonzo Ball even had an interview recently and he said that he believed people would buy his sneakers despite the prices. It was difficult for many people seeing this controversy with Big Baller Brand because some were fans of the Ball Brothers. Some will stay loyal believing that LaVar is just watching out for his kids but some will believe that he is crazy and just ruining their future in the industry. Despite all those opinions, I believe LaVar Ball is still a good father but he could just be trying to live his basketball dream in his kids’ shoes. If you’re looking to get someone new basketball shoes for Christmas, the ZO2 Primes can be pre-ordered now and will be shipped on November 24th, 2017!
Jerry Lorenzo is a big influencer in the fashion community. He is famous for being the founder and head designer for his brand “Fear of God” or “FOG.” He has designed clothes for people like Kanye West, Justin Bieber, and Tyga. His brand has collaborated with many companies but most recognized is Vans and Pacsun. He has created three collections with Pacsun with all collections instantly selling out and resold to people for double the price! With Pacsun, Lorenzo tries to use the same style of layering, oversized fits, and comfort but with cheaper materials which lowers the price point so that everyone can get them. Usually, if it was his own brand collection, it would be made with premium materials that make the clothing price point as high as 500 dollars.
Recently, Lorenzo announced that he is once again collaborating with Vans. His last collaboration in the fall was a hit. They took the Vans Era and gave Lorenzo all of the creative space to create his own shoe. They decided to take the shoe all print the “Fear of God” logo around the whole shoe and instead of all white laces, they replaced it with a nice cream off-white lacing (seen to the right). They also took the Vans Sk8-Hi and went for a more subtle look. They used the same cream off-white laces in the Vans Era and the original black outside of the shoe but they changed the tongue and the toe box of the shoe to a grey suede giving it a more subtle yet loud look (seen to the right). However, the two shoes do not include the Vans logo, it still has the iconic tab in the back of the shoe where the logo should be, but it is not included. People believe it is because the shoe is more like a “Fear of God” shoe than a Vans shoe. Both shoes costed 100 dollars retail, but they go for almost 800 dollars in resell due to the limited supply and name brand. With another platform for Lorenzo to show his artistic skill, everyone is wondering what he will do next. What shoe will he take and create his own? Or will he create his own model with Vans? It’s Yeezy Season, and Kanye is back with a new colorway for his Yeezy line with Adidas. West is iconic for being ahead of the game in the fashion world. He’s always been a fashion icon for men whether it was for athleisure, streetwear, or dressing up. West has even incorporated music into his clothing starting with his SAINT PABLO tour merch. This merch quickly sold out and had people on the resell market go crazy for them just because of the name brand, not even for the quality! But, people don’t just go crazy for the Yeezy line of clothes, they especially get attached to the shoes.
Kanye originally partnered with Nike to make his first Yeezy 1 and 2 but they quickly ended their contract together and West went over to Adidas to create his new model. Majority of the sneaker community goes for Yeezys but they never disregard the Nike Yeezy 1 and 2 because it’s just a classic! Now with the Adidas models, Kanye has created the Yeezy Boost 350 V1 and Yeezy Boost 350 V2. Both silhouettes include Adidas’ signature cushioning, boost. They use styrofoam-like balls to make you feel like you’re stepping on a pillow that bounces back. The original V1 model is sought after more than the V2 because it was more exclusive. But that doesn’t mean the V2 is any less better. With the new model, West incorporated more of the boost cushioning and created new creative colorways.
Well, on April 29th, Adidas and West will be releasing the “Cream White” colorway of the V2 model. This model incorporates the main silhouette of the V2 and the back tab of the V1 creating a clean simple model of the Yeezy Boost V2. This shows a step back in Kanye, instead of creating popping colors and futuristic ideas, West seems to be taking a step back in his line. He’s choosing a more simple and clean colorway for the shoe. But he’s still showing that he’s ahead of his time with his creative shoe silhouette. Hopefully you’ll be able to catch this release through the Adidas Confirmed app or the official website for Kanye’s Yeezy line.
Today, March 26th is considered Air Max day for Nike! Air Max is considered one of the first cushions for shoe technology other than your regular old insole which was created in 1987. Nike replaced a part of their soles with an injection of an air bubble so when you step the air will bounce back giving you a lighter feel while walking, running, jumping, or anything really! For the month of March, Nike has released many shoes that incorporated their Air Max technology and even retroed some of their shoes that haven’t been restocked for several years. For example, Nike brought back the Nike x Atmos Air Max 90 that incorporated the air bubble, baby blue hints on the Nike swoosh and logo, and of course, the iconic elephant print at the time that was inspired by the Air Jordan 3. This shoe was originally released in 2007 with a limited supply making sneakerheads wanting them even more for their rareness. In honor of Air Max day, Nike came out with the VaporMax. This shoe defines Air Max because the whole sole is Air Max! Usually the air bubble is covered by a plastic sole so you can’t see the whole thing but in this shoe, you can see the whole air bubble for what it is. Nike even collaborated with Comme des Garcons to make the VaporMax more unique so they took out the laces in their model while the original pair has laces. Hopefully you were able to grab a pair of these at your nearest Nike store! For more information, click here.
Recently, COMME des GARÇONES has made a collaboration with Nike and their Dunk Highs. It came with the Nike Dunk High silouette but with clear panels as the canvas for the shoe which makes the shoe see through. This is a very popular trend with clear panels on shoes but it is seen with mixed feelings because most people don’t want others seeing their socks or open toes. However, most people like the shoe because of it’s rareness and the brand names. COMME des GARÇONES is a Japanese clothing brand that is branded by their playful red heart. They make very simple essential items like t-shirts, polo shirts, hoodies, and shoes as well. They might be simple, but COMME des GARÇONES uses premium materials to make their items comfortable. This collaboration with Nike was showing a different point of view of COMME des GARÇONES. Instead of going into their simple items, they went out of the box and changed the Nike Dunks from a lifestyle/skateboarding sneaker into a fashion sneaker. This even gave inspiration to a sneakerhead that creates his own shoes, The Shoe Surgeon to use COMME des GARÇONES’ idea of clear panels and implement it into the Air Jordan 1. Recently there has been a scandal with Nike and Jordan Brand on their remastered shoe, the Air Jordan 15 “Stealth” colorway. We all believed that Nike and Jordan Brand would be honest about their shoes’ performance considering they usually listen to their consumers and even show off their technology in multiple shoes like the Zoom Air All Out shoe. Zoom Air is a performance cushioning that allows the user to “bounce back” because of the air bubble.
However, the WearTesters recently made a discovery on the shoe that surprised many consumers. Nike and Jordan Brand claimed that they had incorporated Zoom Air in both the forefoot and the heel, however, the WearTesters saw that there was only Zoom Air in the heel as seen to the right. Nike replaced the Zoom Air in the forefoot with a piece of rubber instead.
Consumers immediately started to take this to Nike and complain that they were false advertising and that they wanted their money back. They took it to social media to spread the news to the rest of Nike customers that were going to buy the Air Jordan 15. Of course these people were angry, they had spent about $190 retail for a shoe that was made without the materials they were told it was going to be made out of. Luckily, there were people like the WearTesters to point this false advertisement out and notify the public.
Nike and Jordan Brand were caught off guard so they immediately changed the description of the shoe as seen to the left. They provided a refund to the people who didn’t want the Air Jordan 15 and a 25% discount on their next purchase. While those who wanted it, only received a 25% discount. This did have positive feedback giving Nike their loyal customers’ faith back.
The consumers were grateful for this correction, however, it didn’t stop their doubt in the brand since they were disappointed that such a loyal brand like Nike, could fool their customers by replacing their technology with a piece of rubber. In conclusion, this scandal changed our minds about our view on Nike and Jordan Brand, they might’ve false advertised, but they still stay loyal to their customers. Where will this take Nike and Jordan Brand now?

The Adidas NMD runner has become an iconic shoe recently. The model is based off the Adidas Ultra-Boost, a running shoe that incorporated Adidas’ new shoe cushioning, Boost. Boost is a cushion that is made up of styrofoam looking kernels that are packed into one to absorb energy and to release it giving the user a bounce back. They incorporated it into the NMD as a lifestyle shoe unlike the Ultra-Boosts, a running shoe. They also took the Primeknit material from the Ultra-Boost which is this yarn material that is supposed to make the shoe feel like a sock and make it even more comfortable. However, the NMD differs from the Ultra-Boosts with these two rubber blocks on the outside sole and one rubber block on the inside sole giving it a nice aesthetic. The first NMD colorway was very popular and it immediately sold it. It was called the “OG.” Well, Adidas confirmed the re-release date for these high-demand shoes for January 14, 2017! These shoes will be retailed for $180 and will probably resell for almost $400. For more information, click here.
